So big kid wants to be in the middle school band with his pals. And he wants to play the drums, of course-just like all the other 847 sixth graders. Today he tells me the band director said he might have to play the trombone instead....and we will have to pay $30 (or more) a month for this privilege.

Note: I think I freaked big kid out a little when I grabbed him by the arm and said, "You'd better explain to That Man that Your Mother wants you to play The Drums!" And then I wiped the spittle from my upper lip...

ReplyDeleteAfter my big, big kid's experience with the trumpet, I FORBID the middle kid to play ANYTHING in an organized school setting. Really, I did. The whole thing was just a huge pain in the ass--don't forget you'd have to attend Middle School band concerts--MIDDLE school-off key, out of rhythm--horrid.
ReplyDeleteDitto all of the above! Remember our own experience playing the trombone? And we actually cared about practicing and being good at it. Like the muse said, I also forbid my kids from playing a school instrument. I knew it would chap my ass if they were bad and I had to continue listening to them.
ReplyDeleteLMAO!!! I do however feel victimized by the 5th grade teachers who actually turned in the band interest forms from the 5th graders! WTF!!! Are they getting a kick-back or what???...just goes to show that a split second random-ass moment can screw with your future sanity!!!
